Tensions within four walls: family reunions, meals with friends and other closed-door events that go awry!

The end of the year is approaching, and with it its share of unavoidable activities: Christmas presents, DIY projects, kitschy and bright decorations, hours spent cooking… and the icing on the cake: meals with family and friends! Those moments when we spend hours at the table and inevitably end up arguing about problematic topics of conversation, against a backdrop of family, generational or political disagreements.
Once again, BCUL – site Riponne is turning its nose up at the Christmas spirit with a selection of films and books set behind closed doors. For the end of the year, no festive recipes, nocreative activities or merry choruses , but rather resurfacing secrets, shouting matches or even crimes, all imbued with intense psychological tension.
The “huis clos” (closed-door) process, much used in film, theater and literature, is characterized by recurring elements: a story taking place in a closed location, isolated from the outside world, growing tension, an oppressive atmosphere, increasingly intense interactions with no way out for the protagonists. Sometimes producing comical, touching situations, sometimes morbid and dramatic, the in camera setting allows us to focus on the relationships between the characters, who, pushed to the limit, reveal themselves in depth.
A thematic selection to be found from November 30, 2021 to January 3, 2022 at the BCUL – site Riponne.
BCUL wishes you a peaceful and happy holiday season!
