Paul Juon fund

Acquisition of new autograph scores

With over a hundred recordings of his music to date, several monographs, reissues of his compositions by leading publishers, and works featured in over 60 concerts around the world in the last two years, the Swiss composer Paul Juon (1872-1940), already a household name in his own lifetime, is enjoying a remarkable renaissance.

Originally from Graubünden, born in Moscow and settled in Vevey after a successful career in early 20th-century Berlin, Juon, like many other artists in the Music Archive collection, weaves a link between the world and the canton.

In addition to his compositions, his collection here at home includes a wealth of correspondence with the most influential musicians of his time, concert programs and reviews, photographs, course notes and personal documents, and has been considerably enriched by the acquisition of 60 musical manuscripts offered for sale by the heirs of the former Schlesinger / Robert Lienau publishing house in Frankfurt.

This purchase enables us to make Paul Juon’s complete works and his various sources available to musicians and researchers, and to attract an audience from afar.
