The Expo that kills

Le Cri qui tue n°5, Le Château, Tadashi Matsumori, coll. Centre BD de la Ville de Lausanne

Published from 1978 to 1981, the six issues of Le Cri qui tue were veritable UFOs in the French-speaking cultural and editorial landscape. This unique creation, conceived in the canton of Vaud, was the first publication entirely devoted to manga in the French language, more than ten years before its success began.

This exhibition allows the public to discover its pioneering content, in particular the design work of comic duo Véronik Frossard and Sylvain Brossard. It also looks at the bold approach of its initiator, Japanese artist Motoichi “Atoss” Takemoto. With Le Cri qui tue, he set out to promote Japanese comics in a non-existent French-speaking market, a mission he carried out with Vaud publisher Rolf Kesselring.

Curators: David Javet & Myriam Jouhar

Exhibition from May 5 to October 25, 2025
