Yukiko returns to Japan in 1945 after several years in Indochina. She hopes to find Tomioka, with whom she had a love affair during the war. Unfortunately, the reunion promises to be difficult, as Tomioka, who is already married, is not worthy of the young woman’s feelings for him.
Fumiko Hayashi (1903-1951) was a major Japanese author. She is best known for her diary Vagabonde, but also for her many novels adapted for film, including Nuages flottants (éditions du Rocher), considered her masterpiece.

Bring your own picnic and enjoy it at the end of the reading.

In collaboration with the Centre de traduction littéraire de Lausanne, an episode of Fringale, the BCUL podcast, will feature Corinne Atlan, novelist, essayist and translator of the novel into French.
