Aki Shimazaki, “Tsubaki

DR

How about a literary eclipse in the course of your day? Make yourself comfortable for a read in the dark – a guaranteed escape!

The first book in the novel cycle Le Poids des secrets, Tsubaki (Actes Sud) tells the story of Namiko’s mother, a survivor of the atomic bomb that fell on Nagasaki. On her death, she writes a letter to her daughter in which she tells the truth about her life: her daily life during the war, her first love and a terrible secret.
Born in Japan in 1954, Aki Shimazaki has lived in Montreal since 1991. In French, she is the author of several novel cycles featuring Japanese society. Le Poids des secrets is her first pentalogy, with others to follow, including a brand-new cycle published a few months ago with the novel Ajisai.

Bring your own picnic and enjoy it at the end of the reading.
