Mouth to ear – autumn 2022

When a document challenges, amuses, transports or transforms, our librarians like to share it with you. This sharing is done through “word-of-mouth” bookmarks placed in the documents available on our different sites.
We’ve selected a few below to whet your appetite.
Henri Tsiang
At the crossroads of France and China, Henri Tsiang approaches Qi Gong with a scientific as well as a cultural background.
Illuminating this practice in the light of neuroscience involves a detailed exploration of mind/body interactions. A bridge-builder, the author nevertheless regrets the difficulty the West has in “grasping the subtlety of Asian knowledge paradigms”, and calls for a genuine encounter between Western and Chinese approaches to man and health. It is indeed high time…

Bernard Werber
In a future not so far from our own, a story of war, disaster, the supernatural and, above all, cats.
An adventure that takes us to explore a ruined world not through the eyes of man, but through those of four-legged beasts. A captivating comic strip with characters as varied as they are endearing.

Michaeleen Doucleff
With his American style, the author takes us on a journey to discover other modes of education than that of the WEIRD (Western Educated Industrialized Rich Democratic) people, who are essentially child-centered.
There’s not much theory here, but some practical suggestions for developing genuine collaboration between parents and children, so that the latter can be fully integrated into the adult world.

Tigran Hamasyan
Pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan delights our ears with his first album of covers of American standards! The songs date from the 1920s to the 1950s and are by Richard Rodgers, Charlie Parker, Jerome Kern, David Raksin and others.
Tigran Hamasyan joins forces with Matt Brewer’s double bass and Justin Brown’s drums to breathe new life into these great classics. A number of distinguished guests (Mark Turner, Joshua Redman and Amrose Akinmusire) contribute to making this album a masterpiece.

Mondonville
In just a few years, the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles has produced some forty CD and DVD recordings under the Château de Versailles Spectacles label. A rich repertoire that plunges us into the French musical heritage of the Baroque period, with all the splendor of the court at the time of Louis XIV.
Among these publications, we have chosen to focus on the album devoted to the grands motets by Jean-Joseph Cassanéa de Mondonville, performed by the Chœur & Orchestre Marguerite Louise under the direction of Gaétan Jarry. Intended for large choirs, these motets take on a theatrical and dramatic character, enhanced by the generous acoustics of the Chapelle Royale. Don’t hesitate to discover the other volumes on this magnificent label!
